Mouli Cohen: Private/Public Partnerships vital to Educational Success

California, January 20, 2010 – International investor and lifelong philanthropist Mouli Cohen stated today that partnerships between private Information and Communication Technology (ICT) suppliers and the public sector are key to driving up children’s educational achievements and economic prosperity around the globe.

Speaking in regards to the launch of the educational technology event BETT 2010, Cohen said “We must recognize that ICT companies are more than suppliers. They are true stakeholders in educational development.”

Cohen added that by working with the private sector, governments can sustain innovation by supporting the skills that drive it. “We need to prepare the future workforce for the workplace where working with hi-tech will be the norm and not the exception,” he said. “This is one of government’s most important priorities.”

Mr. Cohen drew attention to a number of plans already in place. Several schools in the UK, for example, have developed an online portal with the help of several US software companies which allows parents to access information about their child’s progress as well as the school’s policy, procedures, and initiatives. Another school uses podcasting to record lessons, and encourages students to use Dictaphones to listen back to their own voices to improve diction and presentation skills.

Concluding his speech, Cohen said “Technology can break down the barriers to learning which have blighted so many for so long. We need to ensure it is part of the way we learn and this has to happen right across education from early learning to university. Doing this will not only benefit economic prosperity, but also change the lives of families and help all children achieve the very best.”
